Kildare - The First Team to Win Sam Maguire

Kildare won 4 All Ireland titles but hard to believe the last time was in 1928. One can only imagine what celebrations will be like when that gap is bridged.
The Lilywhites won the 1927 final against Kerry and repeated that win in 1928. And in so doing Kildare, in 1928, became the first team to win the newly commissioned All Ireland Trophy now know as Sam Maguire. We couldn't find any 1928 footage but this clip from 1926 showed how good Kildare were at that time. Kildare may have lost this 1926 final to Kerry after a replay but revenge was theirs in the next two.

Lets' move on 60 years to 1998 and the legendary Mick O'Dwyer takes Kildare to the All Ireland Final but failed to match Galway on the day. To get a flavour of that year however how about this late goal from Brian Murphy against Meath to secure the 1998 Leinster Title
