Derry beat Down (1991 and 1994 All Ireland Champions, Monaghan and Donegal (reigning All Ireland champions) to win the 1993 Ulster title. In the All Ireland semi they had a single point win over Dublin (15 to 14) and in the final the Oakleaf county overcame Cork 1-14 to 2-08.
The semi v Dublin was a thriller right up to the final whistle and Derry with stars like McNicholl, Brolly, Tohill, Gormley, Henry Downey (capt) and McGurk put in a massive performance in the closing stages. Watch out to for a youthful Dub named Pat Gilroy.
In the final Cork got off to a flier but Derry weren't to be denied their first title with a crucial goal from Seamus Downey in the first half and again Derry finished the stronger turning a 1 point deficit into a 3 point win and Sam went to Ulster for the third year in a row. What a day !
