Limerick - The Hurling Hero's of '73 and Football Drama in 2004

Limerick haven't made it onto the big hurling stage too many times in recent years. They won the All Ireland Senior Hurling title in 1940 but had to wait until 1973 to win it again. And that was the last win though they did make the final 4 more times since then - 1974, 1980, 1994 and 1996. Appreciate the infamous day in '73 when they beat reigning champions Kilkenny in the final - with the distinctive voice of Micheal O'Hehir speaking so eloquently of great players like Richie Bennis, Eamon Cregan and that speech from Eamon Grimes.

The picture quality isn't great but Limerick fans won't care!

And how about Limerick footballers in 2004 v Kerry - So close and a game they should have won!

The replay in Killarney was never covered by TV cameras but wasn't to be for Limerick as Kerry won it 3-10 to 2-09.

Leitrim - The Glory of '94

Hyde Park. 24th July 1994. Leitrim capture their first Connacht title in 67 years (1927). It was an occasion of immense pride and celebration as team, under manager John O'Mahomy, defeated the managers home county and reigning Connacht champions Mayo. And, in fairness, it was a win that got great respect and scenees of celebration across all of the GAA world.

Laois - The O'Moore County Marvelous Minors !

The O'Moore county has had most of it's successes at minor football. They won their first All Ireland minor title in 1996 against Kerry. That team went on to win back-to-back titles by winning again in 1997 against a top class Tyrone side. Happy days !

At least 10 of those minors went on to play senior level and no doubt were key to success of senior team under Mick O'Dwyer from 2003 onwards. It's easy to forget that Laois have contested 4 Leinster Finals in the last 10 years when the legendary Mick O'Dwyer was in charge. That's the next best record to the Dubs. They may have registered 1 Leinster title in that period but it was a sweet one over neighbours Kildare in 2003. They were back again in the 2004 final and only lost after a replay to Westmeath.
But 2003 was the big year for Laois as not only did they capture a Leinster Senior title their minors took their 3rd All Ireland title beating Dublin in the final that year.
This is the proud moment for 2003 Leinster Champions.

Kilkenny - Records and Legends!

Hurling and Kilkenny belong in the same sentence. With 33 Senior All Ireland Titles they have 3 more than Cork and 7 more than Tipperary. And incredibly 1 more than the combined titles won by Limerick, Wexford, Galway, Dublin, Offaly, Clare and Waterford. And in the 2011 team just consider that Henry Shefflin, Eddie Brennan, Noel Hickey, Michael Kavanagh and Tommy Walsh have 39 medals between them.

Eddie Keher - A legend in a county of legends. A tribute to his goal from 1972.

Brian Cody - so much to consider for the man who has been in charge for over 13 years now. There are so many highlights but one that will always be fondly remembered was his "Do you think yourself it was a penalty Marty" from 2009.
