1961 - Record Attendance of 90556 see Down Win

1961 - Down 3-06 : Offaly 2-08
From 50 years ago this year this final holds the record of the highest attendance in Croke Park - about 8,000 more than current capacity.

Down were reigning champions while Offaly were in their first ever final and it was a terrific match with the great Down stars of the era, Sean O'Neill and captain Paddy Doherty, making the difference.
Watch out for a terrific Offaly goal from Mick Casey and that 'penalty' they didn't get. Major bad decisions back then also !!
and finally, appreciate the quality colour in this video. It was originally black and white but amazing what film technology can do.
