Tipps Michael Cleary Scores a 'Surprise' Goal in 1991 Final

Full match available on DVD here
It's 1991 and despite being regarded as regular rivals it's been 20 years since these counties have met in a final. And 20 years ago, in 1971, Tipperary took the honours on a score of 5-17 to 5-14. If that looks like a high score it was but remember the GAA were experimenting with 80 minute matches for a few years back then.

In 1991 Tipp are the more established team having won the All-Ireland just two years previously and this season have won an epic, replayed Munster final against All-Ireland champions Cork as well as blitzing old sparring partners Galway.

Kilkenny, managed by former goalkeeping great Ollie Walsh, have taken Leinster for the first time in four years by squeezing past a game Dublin side and are back in the big time against Babs Keating's talented team.

On the day Tipp, once again, emerged victorious 1-16 to 0-15 (a much lower score than 1971 !!)

This clip shows a few highlights but in particular watch out for the surprise goal from Nenagh Eire Og man Micheal Cleary - from a free catching Kilkenny unawares. The goal that probably won the match as it happens.
